The Center for Healing of Trauma and Attachment (CHTA) is a well known and respected resource in the Northern Colorado region for the treatment of people with trauma and related disorders. In addition to traditional clinical approaches such as EMDR, they are open to alternative treatments and supportive therapies as well. I bring to CHTA a rather unique skill set. I am a martial artist holding a 3 rd Degree Black Belt in Hapkido with additional training in several other styles. My focus has always been on personal safety and self-defense. I enjoy empowering people to become more skilled and effective at
ensuring their own safety and the safety of their families. I have applied these defensive skills in various protective and security roles from security patrol operations to executive protection to nightclub security and team training. I am also seasoned mental health provider having practiced in the past as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and currently as a School Psychologist with over 20 years of experience. My protective nature and concern for student safety drove me to a career change following the Columbine High School shooting in 1999. I transitioned from the aerospace defense sector to the school mental health field. In my prior line of work, I specialized in system threat
assessment and vulnerability engineering, so I had the vocabulary and mind set to support schools in thinking about the threats they may face and how to support their staff and students. I completed my Master of Arts (MS) degree in Counseling from the Denver Seminary and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. In the schools, I specialized in threat assessment, crisis intervention and prevention
early in this career path, I served as the clinical director for the Denver Seminary Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM) as well as, multiple school crisis teams and school safety committees in the past. With CHTA, I have the opportunity to combine these skill sets and work to empower and equip clients with additional knowledge and skills to support their healing process and equip them to assess and avoid dangerous situations. The knowledge and the skills they learn will enable them to have additional confidence to navigate future challenges. Their increased situational awareness and confidence will serve to increase their resilience and reduce their future risk.- Lloyd Henderson, MA, Ed.S.
